Target Exclusive Hulk Movie Figure
Our friend Wes from Scary-Crayon.com is back with another guest review. This time Wes shares with us his thoughts and feelings on Hasbro’s Target Exclusive deluxe Hulk figure that was a tie-in to this summer’s The Incredible Hulk movie. This was a figure I passed on because of it’s re-use of an old sculpt, but now that I’ve read Wes’ review I’m sort of regretting not picking it up (since I never got TBML1 Hulk either…). D’oh! Anyways, expand the post to see what Wes has to say!
“The Target exclusive Marvel Legends Hulk, which takes its cue from the recent film about the green goliath, is a rerelease of the Marvel Legends Series 1 Hulk from Toy Biz with a few paint variations (no purple pants for this dude) and a movie-esque new head. So let’s start there — with the head. I like the head. It’s not an exact likeness of the movie Hulk, but it’s pretty darn close when viewed from an angle and probably looks more like the film Hulk than any of the smaller toys. In any case, from what I’ve seen of the old head in online photos, the new head is definitely an improvement. The rest of the figure looked great to begin with, so why fix what ain’t broken?
On to the articulation. As SAG once mentioned, Hulk’s jointage is a bit outdated by today’s standards… which makes sense given that he was originally released in 2002. Granted, most of the articulation is akin to what you’d find on a current DC Universe figure, and the double-ball neck does make him pretty versatile in terms of body language above the shoulders. The lack of any sort of bicep swivels, however, is a total downer. Hulk’s also only packing old school T-hips, though I was surprised at the number of poses the cut thighs, hinged knees, and exceedingly useful hinged rocker ankles (where have these been all my life?) allow him to pull off despite this limitation. For a six-year-old mold, this verdant vandal measures up fairly well even today. Articulation could be better, but the bicep thing is the only real glaring flaw.
I’m not sure why Hasbro chose this particular Toy Biz Hulk mold given that there were far better ones available — perhaps to avoid completely upstaging their new Marvel Legends Hulks? — and new fisty hands would have been preferable in addition to the new head, but this is ultimately a pretty serviceable version of the gamma-green giant. If it weren’t for the fact that you could get a much better Hulk off of eBay for not too much more than the $13 asking price (or even less, if you’re savvy), I’d have no problem recommending him. And to the curious few who missed the mold the first time around, or just want a movie Hulk that isn’t so darned tiny, I say go for it.”

I have both the original Hulk from the ML line and this new one and I love this mold. I don’t what it is about them ( Possibly because he was my first ML figure alongside gold Ironman ) but they just looks awesome to me. I’m glad they made a Hulk that can stand with my Movie figures and look just about right there. I wish they made and Abomination in that scale. Oh well!
Good job man. I still don’t have a good hulk. I like the face off hulk but he goes for too much on eBay haha.
Yeah, it is a pretty cool mold, though I do think the Face-Off Hulk looks a lot better. And I agree that an Abomination in this scale would have been awesome! Heck, I wouldn’t even have cared if they’d rereleased an older Abomination — despite the glaring body differences — with a new head.
Yeah, I don’t own face off Hulk (although that would be awesome) I do feel hulk in this scale seems too small sometimes. I plan on getting Icons Hulk so that he can tower over my other figures. I agree with you on the new head for Abomiation, it would be better than nothing!
Gah.. typing on an iTouch sucks haha.
Yeah the sculpt isn’t bad, but I’m not going to pay 20 bucks for it when I already have four Hulks (Face off, Planet, House of M, Maestro). I honestly don’t need anymore of the big green beast we love.
